USED GOLF CARTS

Golf Cart Batteries
Everyone who has a golf cart may need batteries after your purchase. If your current golf cart batteries will not perform they way they used too or will simply not hold a charge get them replaced. You should be able to get them from the dealer from whom you originally purchased the golf cart. If you purchased the golf cart used then you may need to see and aftermarket repair shop. Bring the current used battery with you when you attempt to make a purchase. It is important to purchase a battery that will meet the proper voltage requirements. You do not want to damage the golf cart drive system due to lack of maintenaince or proper equipment.

Golf carts typically are powered by six lead-acid batteries mounted on a metal plate beneath the front seat. Many golf cart batteries require users to add distilled water to ensure that the battery's leaded plates stay immersed in sulfuric acid electrolyte. The byproducts of the electrochemical reaction that charges the battery are sulfuric acid and hydrogen gas. Without water, the battery will start to smoke and can catch fire. An overheated lead-acid battery can vent the flammable gas and potentially explode.

Have a reputable mainteance place look at the batteries and see if they are in good shape.Stick with a dealer if at all possible. The big three (Yamaha, EZ GO, and Club Car) all have a network of dealers that get "trade-ins" and may have the widest selection of batteries for your cart model. If you don't know of anyone in your area. Try the nearest golf course pro shop. Talk to the pro there he or she maybe able to point you in the right direction or maybe they can talk to the machanic employeed at the golf course

Any swelling of the sides or leaky drips should be of major concern. These batteries should be disposed of properly per your state and local laws. The place that you buy your new batteries from may even be able to help in the disposal of the golf cart batteries.

Vintage Golf Carts
>> Vintage golf carts are another story. Should you have a hobby of restoring old golf carts then you may find that fiberglass bodies and mechanicals bring a high price due to the lack of availability. Many of these components are no longer available for your personal restoration project. In which case you may have to settle for a used golf cart at a high price, especially if it has that hard to find part in good shape.
